It's been a long time since I posted so hopefully this will get you caught up to where we are all now. Shortly after my last post Colby started in on his programs. ( specific skills that we have chosen to work on to improve his quality of life) As expected he was not super impressed that the fun get to know you time was over and now he needed to work to have fun. But once he caught on to the style of teaching and gave in he started to learn so much. His programs that he has been working on and mastered are as following
1. He now says No thank you instead of just screaming at me when he doesn't want something.
2. He can answer the following questions
- what's your name
- what's your mummy's name
- what your dads name
- where do you live
- how old are you
He can also say hello when he meets someone and ask them how they are doing.
3. He can ask for what he wants now ( I want apple please ) instead of just the word (apple)
4. At lunch he can sit for 20 minutes instead of 5 minutes that he could do before. He also has to do this at home at our house which is something we are working on.
5. He is working on parallel play with a friend for a short time. This one will take a while to master playing with peers. Toys are still more interesting than his peers but its starting to change. He is more interested in people than he used to be.
So that is awesome. Can't express how grateful I am to God for providing this help for us. There was only 6 spots in the province and we got one. I am also so grateful for the therapists that are so patient, enthusiastic and kind. They do so much work with him and Colby loves them.
As for Colby he isn't really excited to be leaving the house every day (neither am me and Audrey) but once we get going its great and he enjoys it. But I am so grateful at the same time. Saturdays are nice to just stay home and catch up on laundry, paperwork and life.
Anyways thanks for reading.
